KC Hysmith

Director of Communications

KC Hysmith is a writer, food historian, recipe developer, and photographer. Her work focuses on the intersection between food, gender, and the digital landscape, focusing on how women use social media for activism through food. KC holds a MLA in Gastronomy from Boston University and a PhD in American Studies and food history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her academic research focuses on the analog and digital legacy of women's empowerment through the medium of food and cooking. Her writing and work have appeared in Gastronomica, The Boston Globe, Sift, Culture Magazine,The Local Palate, The Spruce, The Kitchn, Eater, and more. She is excited to bring her IRL and research-based experience in social media to MOFAD and its many visitors. When she's not working or dissertating, you can find KC over on TikTok making food history videos to songs she doesn't know.
