Teas of Asia

  • Museum of Food and Drink 62 Bayard Street Brooklyn, NY, 11222 United States (map)

Tea is one of the oldest known beverages in the world and today accounts for $12 billion in annual sales in the United States. In 2016, Americans drank more than 3.8 billion gallons of this liquid gold and is now the world's third largest importer of tea, most of which is from Asia. Theresa Wong from T Shop and Stephen Thomas from Rishi Tea, along with Sarah Rose as moderator (author of For All the Tea in China), will take you on a journey from the origins of tea in China to tea ceremonies in Asia to modern tea culture in the United States.

Experience tastings with the experts and come away with an even greater appreciation for tea drinking and tea culture throughout Asia and the United States.

About T Shop

T Shop is a tea shop in Nolita that showcases well-crafted teas and tea wares. We love tea not just for the taste, but also for the enjoyment and relaxation that tea brings us. We serve as a curator of premium teas and share our tea experiences through tea tastings, a relaxing ritual. Tea tasting opens the door to discover the complexities of flavor and aroma using the senses, and to appreciate the nuances between different teas.

Sarah Rose is the author of For All the Tea in China: How England Stole the World's Favorite Drink and Changed History (Viking). She wrote the Dynasties column for the Wall Street Journal and was the dating columnist for Men's Fitness and the Saturday Evening Post. Sarah is currently finishing her second book, Ungentlemanly War: The Women of Churchill's Secret Army to be released by Crown in 2019 ahead of the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
