MOFAD is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

 

Getting Here

The Museum of Food and Drink is located in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn, on the second floor of the Empire Stores building.

  • Via 55 Water Street Entrance: Walk through the main Empire Stores Entrance, past Cha Cha Matcha on your right and Time Out Market on your left, and head toward the glass elevator vestibule and take the elevator to the 2nd floor. MOFAD will be to your right once you are off the elevator.

  • Via Brooklyn Bridge Park / Courtyard Entrance: Entrance from inside Brooklyn Bridge Park is in the back courtyard next to Cecconi’s. You can access MOFAD by outdoor courtyard stairs or elevator inside immediately to your right (take to 2nd floor).

By subway:

MOFAD is accessible by taking the:

  • A, C trains to High St - Brooklyn Bridge (walk under Brooklyn Bridge along Washington St, left on Water St)

  • F train to the York St (walk along York St under Manhattan Bridge, right on Washington St,, left on Water St)

By bus:

The existing MTA B25 bus stop along Water Street drops off and picks up passengers immediately in front of Empire Stores. Additional bus stops include:

  • B67 to York St / Jay St (walk under Mnhtn Bridge, right on Washington St, left on Water St)

  • B62 to York St / Gold St (walk under Mnhtn Bridge, right on Washington St, left on Water St)

By ferry:

DUMBO has a dedicated ferry stop on the East River route. After arrival at Dumbo/Fulton stop, take a left under the Brooklyn Bridge and head through Brooklyn Bridge Park; Empire Stores will be on your right. By bicycle:

Nearest Citi Bike docks are at Main St & Plymouth St (in front of West Elm) and Dock St & Front St . For additional nearby stations for Citi Bike visit (https://citibikenyc.com/homepage). Empire Stores offers direct access to the Brooklyn Greenway, a network of protected bicycle paths, local rental and repair shops, and a number of bike-share stations.

By car:

MOFAD highly recommends public transportation to reach our space. If you do drive, please note that street parking is very difficult to find though there are several public garages in the immediate vicinity.

Accessibility

MOFAD strives to accommodate visitors of all abilities in a welcoming environment. The museum’s installation space at 55 Water Street is on the second floor, which is accessible via elevator. Restroom facilities are wheelchair accessible.

Visitor Guidelines

  • Service animals are welcome. Pets are not permitted in the museum.

  • Outside food and drinks are not permitted in the museum.

  • Unless otherwise noted, non-flash photography in the museum is allowed for personal, non-commercial purposes only. Videotaping and tripods are prohibited.

  • The museum does not have a coat check and does not accept any items for storage. A coat rack will be available for use, at visitor’s own risk.

  • Large bags are not permitted in the museum.

  • Smoking and e-cigarettes are not permitted anywhere within the building.

  • The use of easels is prohibited.

  • MOFAD’s staff and visitors have the right to an environment free from abuse, threatening, or inappropriate behavior. MOFAD reserves the right to remove any person acting in an unacceptable or inappropriate manner.
