Join Kristina Cho, author of Mooncakes and Milk Bread: Sweet and Savory Recipes Inspired by Chinese Bakeries, along with restaurateur and Heart of Dinner co-founder Moonlynn Tsai, for a special evening of cooking and conversation at Essex Market.

This partnership program between MOFAD and Essex Market will be a celebration of Cho’s new book and an opportunity to lift up Chinatowns across the United States that have been so deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, both in terms of the negative impact on their food businesses as well as the violence and xenophobia that residents have endured.

Kristina will be teaching her recipe for almond cookies from Mooncakes and Milk Bread, which all attendees will have the opportunity to taste. Additionally, Kristina and Moonlynn will be sharing memories of their favorite childhood foods and discussing ways to support and nourish AAPI communities during this difficult time.

Signed copies of Mooncakes and Milk Bread: Sweet and Savory Recipes Inspired by Chinese Bakeries are available from our partner bookstore, Kitchen Arts & Letters for purchase online with your ticket or separately at the event. If you order a book with your ticket, you will be able to retrieve it at the event.

This is an in-person event. Tickets must be purchased online in advance. Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door.

Please note that attendees aged 12 and older who attend programs and events at Essex Market will be required to show proof that they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine authorized for emergency use by the FDA or WHO, and are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings. More information about vaccination proof for indoor activities (Key to NYC) can be found here.

You must show photo ID and proof of COVID vaccine to attend this event.

Thank you to our event partners, Imagery Estate Winery and Bob’s Red Mill!

KRISTINA CHO

Kristina Cho’s culinary perspective is rooted in her experiences as a first-generation Chinese American who grew up in Cleveland going to her family’s Chinese restaurant, before moving to one of San Francisco’s unofficial second Chinatown in the Inner Richmond neighborhood. A self-taught home cook and baker, Kristina is behind the popular food blog and Instagram page Eat Cho Food, where she showcases her Asian-inspired recipes to tens of thousands of followers. The success of her blog led her to focus full-time on cooking and recipe development, and she currently teaches hands-on cooking classes and homemade dumpling workshops. Kristina had the idea for Mooncakes and Milk Bread after spending years experimenting with her own versions of recipes inspired by her favorite Chinese cafe dishes and realizing the lack of existing cookbook options focused specifically on the genre.
