The Legacy Quilt Student Project at MOFAD

Hello! Your student is participating in the Legacy Quilt Project, a collaboration between your student’s class and the Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD).

This story-gathering project is part of MOFAD’s upcoming exhibition, African/American: Making the Nation’s Table. MOFAD has already created the physical Legacy Quilt, which represents over 400 African American contributions to American cuisine.

The Legacy Quilt Project is a digital version of the quilt described above that will grow with time as visitors add their own stories. Your student will be making and photographing a quilt block they create themselves. The theme of the quilt block will be “My African American Culinary Hero.” Your student’s quilt block will be submitted to MOFAD and will join digital submissions from students and adults all over the world as part of the Legacy Quilt Project. You are welcome to contribute, too!

Your student is researching their chosen African American Culinary Hero in preparation for making a unique quilt block to be added to the Legacy Quilt Project. The interview questions below will help your student to form ideas about the quilt block they create. Thank you in advance for your help with this project!

You can learn more about how the Legacy Quilt was made and explore the digital Legacy Quilt. Thank you for helping your students research and understand their African American Culinary Hero.
