Living Wine: A Film Screening, Virtual Conversation, & Wine Tasting

MOFAD is proud to present a virtual screening of LIVING WINE, a new documentary that follows the journeys of natural winemakers in Northern California, during the largest wildfire season on record. Following the screening, we'll be joined virtually for a conversation and wine tasting with the film's director Lori Miller, winemaker Megan Bell, and wine professional Lee Campbell.

MEGAN BELL

Megan Bell is a winemaker living and working in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Prior to settling on the central coast of California, Megan received her BS in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis in 2012 and apprenticed in wineries and vineyards in Napa, the Livermore Valley, the Willamette Valley, Central Otago (NZ), and the Loire Valley (France). 

Her company, Margins Wine produces low-intervention wines using grapes from underrepresented regions, vineyards, and varietals, and is part of the growing movement in California to make wines from vineyards farmed organically or in organic conversion using minimal additives during the winemaking process, thereby showcasing the vineyards the grapes came from.

LEE CAMPBELL

An ardent supporter of sustainable vine-farming and traditional, low-intervention winemaking techniques, Lee Campbell is a wine professional for the modern age. After getting her start in Washington, D.C.’s and Manhattan’s top culinary and oenological establishments, she hopped the East River to Brooklyn, and became the norm-breaking Wine Director for the Tarlow Restaurant Group. Furthermore, as co-creator of The Big Glou and co-organizer of the first Wild World Austin, Lee has also been instrumental in the establishment of America’s natural wine fair circuit.

A certified sommelier currently working as a consultant, Lee now splits her time between New York and Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Drawing from experience in nearly every aspect of wine and hospitality (retail, import, distribution, hotels, restaurants, wine fairs), she currently builds wine programs and educates service staffs for clients; acts as an ambassador for Early Mountain Vineyards in Madison, Virginia; and is part of the founding team at Commonwealth Crush: a winery, custom-crush facility, and incubator for new producers in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

LORI MILLER

Lori Miller is a Los Angeles-based producer/director known for her feature-length documentaries about the arts, culture, and sustainability. As producer/director, Lori’s most recent project is Living Wine, which follows several natural winemakers in Northern California during the 2020 wildfire season. The film is currently slated for worldwide release through Abramorama and Cargo Film & Releasing. She recently completed Day One, about a trauma-informed public school for refugees in St. Louis, which received three festival “best documentary” awards, and is in release through APT and Bullfrog Films. As a documentary producer, Lori’s credits include They Came to Play (New York Times Critics’ Pick) about the inspirational stories of older amateur pianists who rekindle their musical dreams later in life, Shakespeare High (Showtime) which follows underserved teens in Los Angeles who study Shakespeare and stay in school, and Virtuosity (PBS) about the Van Cliburn professional piano competition. Lori’s independent feature producing credits include: Panic (Sundance FF, Lionsgate), and The Last Supper (Sundance FF, Sony). Based in Los Angeles, Lori is originally from New Haven, CT and is a graduate of Barnard College.
